1 John

1 What was from the beginning, that we have heard, that we have seen with our eyes, that which we saw and our hands felt concerning the Message of Life: the life was revealed, we have seen, we bear witness and recount to you the Eternal Life which was with the Father and was revealed to us. This is what we have seen and heard, we report it to you so that that you should have fellowship with us. Our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, so we are writing these things in order that our joy should be filled to the brim.

This is the instruction that we have heard from Christ and are declaring to You, “God is Light and there is no darkness at all with Him.” If we claim that we have fellowship with him, yet we walk in darkness, we lie and we do not act upon the Truth that we claim. But if we should walk in the light—since He is in the light—we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from every sin. If we claim that we don’t have any sin, we are deceiving ourselves and reality is not in us. If we would confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to purify us from every unrighteousness. If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make God a liar and His Word is not in us.

2 My children, I write these things to you so that you should not sin. Yet when someone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. And He is an appeasement of God’s wrath against our sins, not just for ours, but even for sins all over the world! And in this we know that we have come to know Him: we guard His commands. Someone who claims “I know him,” while not keeping His commands is a liar and there is no reality in his claim. However, whoever should guard His Message, in this the love of God really has been brought to maturity, in this we know that we are with Him. When someone claims to abide with Him, such a one is thus obligated to walk just as He walked.
