To Collosae

This is a personal translation, feel free to critique, but please be gracious.

Paul an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the will of God and Timothy the brother, to those in Colossae, the saints and faithful brothers in Christ. Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

We, who are always praying for you, thank the God who is the father of our Lord Jesus Christ because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the saints because of the hope stored up for you in the heavens. You heard about this hope before in the message of the Truth , the gospel that is available for you, and in the same way that it is bearing fruit and growing in the whole world—so it also does among you ever since the day you heard and understood the grace of God in truth. You learned this same thing from our beloved fellow-slave Epaphras, who faithfully serves Christ on your behalf and who has told us about your love in the Spirit .

Because of this, we have not stopped praying and petitioning for you since the very day that we heard, in order that you should be filled with the knowledge of his desire in all wisdom and spiritual insight, in order to walk worthily of the Lord by desiring to please him in every way, by bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, empowered with all strength after the manner of his glorious might unto all perseverance and tranquil expectation , joyfully thanking the Father who made you fit for a portion of the inheritance of the Holy ones in the light.
The Father who delivered you from the authority of darkness and transferred you into the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have manumission , the forgiveness of sins:

He is the form of the invisible God,
The heir apparent of all creation,
Because all things were created by Him,
Within the heavens and upon the earth,
The visible and the invisible,
Whether thrones or lordships,
Whether rulers or authorities;
All things were created through him and for him;

And He is above all things
For all things have been united though him,
And he is the head of the body, the church;

He is a ruler ,
a Firstborn from the dead ones,
b So that he should be preeminent in everything,
c Since He desired to settle all the fullness [of deity] in himself
b And to reconcile all things for himself through himself,
a By making peace through the blood of his cross,
Whether the things on the earth
Or the things in the heavens.

And you, at one point being alienated and enemies within your mind in the works of evil, but now he reconciled you, in the body of his flesh through his death, in order to present you holly and blameless and without blemish before him. Indeed if you are abiding, steadfast and having been founded through faith, and not turning away from the hope of the gospel that you heard, the one being preached in all creation which is under the heavens, of which I, Paul became a minister.

Now I am rejoicing in my sufferings for your sakes, and in my flesh, I am filling the absence of Christ’s physical afflictions on behalf of his body, the church, of which I became a minister according to the management from God that was given to me for you in order to fulfill the word of God, the mystery that was hidden from the ages and from the generations– but now was revealed to his Holy ones, who God willed to make known among the nations what the wealth of the glory of this mystery is, which is Christ in you, the hope of Glory, which we preached, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, in order that we should present every man complete in Christ; even for this I am toiling, contending according to his energy, which he is working in me with power.

For I am desiring you to know how great a struggle I am having for your sakes and also those in Laodiceia, even for whoever has not seen my face in the flesh, in order that their hearts should be comforted, being united in love and in all the wealth of the full assurance of understanding, in an understanding of the mystery of God, Christ, in whom are all the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I am saying this, in order that no one should deceive you through an enticing argument.
Indeed even if I am absent in the flesh, yet in my spirit I am with you, rejoicing and seeing your order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, be walking in him. Being rooted and built up in him and being confirmed in the faith just as you were taught, abounding in thankfulness.
Watch! lest some of you be taken captive through philosophies and worthless deceit, which is from the understanding of men, according to the elements of the world and not according to Christ , for in him all the fullness of deity dwells in bodily form. And you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by the stripping away of the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ. And you being dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive together with him, having graciously forgiven you [for] all your trespasses. Having plastered over the thing against you, the handwriting containing the decrees that were against you, and he took it up from the midst, having nailed it to the cross . Having stripped-bare the rulers and authorities, he shamed them in boldness, having triumphed over them in him.

Therefore do not let someone judge you in food and in drink or in a part of a feast, a new moon, or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things about to be, but the body [is] of Christ. Let no one cheat you by desiring by humility and religion of angels, that things they have seen in detail, vain conceit, from the knowledge of his flesh, and not grasping the head, from whom all the body, through joints and ligaments, are being supplied and united in order to be growing the growth of God.
If with Christ you died to the basic structure of the world, why are you submitting to regulations as if you were living in the world? According to the commandments and teachings of men, “You should not hold, you should not experience, you should not touch,” that which is all perishing while in use. Indeed any of these [teachings] are having an appearance of wisdom by made-up religion, a humble attitude, and neglect of the body. They are not having an appearance wisdom in any gain toward the satisfaction of the flesh .

Therefore if you were raised together with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God; Set your thoughts on the things above, not the things on earth. For you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God. Whenever Christ, your life, should be revealed, then you will also be revealed with him in glory. Therefore the parts of the body concerning the earth: immorality, uncleaness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, whatever is idolatrous, kill it. On account of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of unbelief. You also walked in these things at one point, because you lived in them; but now put away all these things: wrath, anger, evil, insults, and obscenities from your mouth.
Do not lie to one another, having stripped bare the old man with his practices, and having put on the new, which is being renewed unto a knowledge according to the Image of the one who creates him, where there is not a Greek or a Jew, circumcised or uncicrumcised, barbarian, Skythian, slave, or free, but rather in all these things, indeed in every thing, Christ .
Therefore, as beloved saints, selected by God, clothe yourselves with guts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, endurance , bearing with one another and bestowing grace among yourselves if someone should have a complaint toward something. Even in the same way that the Lord gave grace to you, even in that way bestow grace, but on top of all these things, put on love, which is a bond of completeness. And let the peace of Christ arbitrate in your hearts, unto which you were also called in one body; and become thankful.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing yourselves with all wisdom, by means of psalms, hymns, spiritual odes, singing with grace in your hearts to God. And every thing that you might do, something in word or in work, [you should do] all things in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thinks to God the Father through him.

1. Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands as if you were relating with the Lord.
2. Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. Children, obey your parents with reference to all things, for this is acceptable in the Lord.
3. Parents do not provoke your children, in order that they should not be discouraged.
4. Slaves, obey your masters according to the flesh with reference to all things, not serving to be seen as people pleasers but in generosity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you should do, work from the soul as for the Lord and not men. Since you know that you will receive for yourself the reward of the inheritance from the Lord, serve the Lord. For the one harming will receive that which he harmed, and there is no partiality.
5. Lords, provide righteousness and equality to your slaves, knowing that you also have a Lord heaven.

Be persistent in prayer, becoming alert in this with thanksgiving,
praying together even concerning us, in order that God should open to us a door for the word in order to speak the mystery of the Christ,
in order that I will make him known as it is necessary that I should speak.
Walk in wisdom in the presence of outsiders, redeeming the time. Your word always with grace, having been seasoned with salt, knowing the means by which it is necessary for each one of your to give an answer.

Tychicus, my beloved brother, faithful servant and fellow-bond-slave in Christ, will make known to you all the things concerning me. I sent him to you for this purpose, in order that you should know the things concerning us and that he should encourage your hearts, with Onesimus, my faithful and beloved brother, who is from you; they will make known all things here.

Aristarchos, my fellow-prisoner, greets you, as does Mark, Barnabas’s nephew (concerning whom you were receiving a command: if he should come to you, receive him) and Jesus, the one who is called Justus, these being from the circumcision, except these are fellow-workers for the kingdom of God, who became an encouragement for me. Epaphras, who is a servant of Christ Jesus from you, greets you, always striving on your behalf with his prayers, in order that you should be stood, completed and fully assured in every will of God. For I am witnessing for him that he is having much pain on your behalf and on behalf of those in Laodeceia and those in Hierapolis. Demas and Luke the beloved healer great you.

Greet the brothers in Laodeceia and Nympha and the church within her house. Whenever the epistle should be read concerning you. You should do in order that it should be read even in the Laodicean church in order that you also read the letter from Laodeceia . And you said to Archippos, “Look for the service, which you received in the Lord, in order that you yourselves should fulfill it.”

I, Paul am writing this greeting, with my own hand. Remember my bonds. May grace be with you.
